''Um, Mr. Quartermaine,'' said a young female doctor from behind Ned.

Ned turned around. ''Yes?''

''We have some rather disturbing things to tell you about the death of your friend, Mr. Jacks,'' she said.

Ned looked confused. ''Like what?''

''Well,'' she said, ''there were traces of poison found in his body. Someone must have come into his room and either injected it or found some other means of getting it into his blood stream. Who has come to visit him?''
